How does cataract surgery work?
To remove a cataract, one type of eye surgery is cataract surgery (cloudy lens). Your eye has a lens for focussing light, just like a camera. Usually, this lens is transparent. A “cataract” occurs when this lens becomes hazy. Your vision is restored by cataract surgery, which removes the hazy lens and substitutes it with a clear artificial lens.
Light travels through the eye’s transparent lens during vision. Your brain and eye can process information into an image thanks to the lens’s ability to concentrate light. The eye cannot concentrate light when the lens is hazy. Your vision becomes hazy, and you may have other symptoms including glare and haloes around bright lights.
